We got our samples from a pond in Danbury, Connecticut the week of  April 17.

Question: Are the macro invertebrates found in pond water the same around the world?

Hypothesis: No, because certain invertebrates (and animals) need different climates to survive.

When observing our pond sample, we found these animals.

•Water Boatman: 1

•Water Shrimp: 12

•Scuds: 26

•Water Fleas: 25 (best guess)

•Water louse: 12

•Bloodworm (Midge/Chironomid larva): 15

•Snails: 15

•Leeches: 5

•Water Worm: 4

•Predacious Diving Beetle: 4

•Water Mite: 2

•Tadpoles: 5

•Dragonfly Nymph: 10

•Damselfly Nymph: 8

Unidentified Organisms

•Looked like a clam- about 3mm circumference, white; we found 4.

•Gel like bubbles- stuck to leaves, possibly eggs, clear, about 4mm circumference, suddenly disappeared after some time; We found 9.

Some questions for further study:

“Does the location of the pond have something to do with the kind of leeches living in it?”

“Does the amount of water fleas in a pond have anything to do with the type of water quality?”

“Does the size of the organism have anything to do with the type of water quality?”

“Why did the clear, gel-like bubbles suddenly disappear?”
