Mrs. Slack’s PALS group- Third graders
We investigated our pond 4 different times. We used a pond that is located at our Community College.
Hypothesis: We all thought that everyone would find different macroinvertebrates across the world.
Our first investigation date was March 26, 2007. Mrs. Slack brought pond water to our classroom to investigate. We were not able to identify any macroinvertebrates. We did find a small green egg that we couldn’t identify. We also found an unidentifiable larva.
Our second investigation date was April 16, 2007. Mrs. Slack brought pond water to our classroom to investigate.
We found:
|
Threadworms |

Water mites |

Our third investigation date was April 30, 2007. We walked to the pond to do our investigation.

We also saw a painted turtle, which is our state reptile, and two garter snakes.
Our fourth investigation date was May 14, 2007. On the morning of our fourth day we had heavy rains and a thunderstorm. We had expected to find a great deal of macroinvertebrates, and were disappointed at how few we found. We think that the storm may have had something to do with it.
We found:

Damselfly numph |

Orb snail |

|
Cranefly larva |

|
Water spider |

As we continued our investigation we noticed that each time we found different macroinvertebrates.
