The third graders at Wallace Elementary School in Hoboken, New Jersey tested pond water samples with our science lab teacher, Ms. Mitsakos. First, we researched the pond habitat to learn about the kinds of living things that inhabit the pond ecosystem, and then we observed macroinvertebrates on the Internet.
The pond water samples were brought in by our teacher from a pond in Pennsylvania since there are no ponds in Hoboken. We recorded our predictions and our findings. We had a lot of fun using microscopes and hand lenses to observe the water samples. These are some of the organisms we found: scuds, caddisfly larva, water fleas, snails, dragon fly nymphs and mosquito larva.
After reading some of the other postings we concluded that pond organisms are the same all over the world!! How cool is that!
