Subject: Costa Rica Trip
Hola from
the Tropical dry Rainforest,
Today we left Caņa
Negro to drive to Monteverde. On the way we stopped at the tropical dry
forest. It is located in the Western part of Costa Rica. As
we drove through the country side everything was brown, and many trees
did not have leaves on them. It looked a lot like fall in Ohio,
except it was 32 degrees centigrade. Perhaps you can research to
find out why the eastern part of Costa Rica is wet and the western part
is dry.
We saw a very unusual tree called the Acacia tree. It has huge
thorns with ants that live in them. The thorns protect the ants
from animals that want to eat them, and the ants protect the trees from
animals that want to eat their leaves. If an animal bumps the tree
the ants rush to bite it. I have attached a picture of Acacia trees for
you to see (To the right, click on the image to see it enlarged).
We also went to an animal rescue farm.
It has big cats and monkeys
that have been hurt. We saw Puma, Jaguars, Margay, Howler monkeys,
and White Face monkeys. A white face monkey tried to pick my
pocket while I was taking a picture. I have attached a picture of
a white face monkey for you to see (To the left, click on the image
to see it enlarged).
Tomorrow we will be going to Monteverde. I can't wait to tell you about
it
