Saint Francis de Sales School, Cleveland, Ohio
Our school grounds are typical to the area which we live in Ohio. We are a
suburb of Cleveland. We have trees on the grounds such as pine, maple
and oak. We also have all of the things that go along with trees such as
bark pieces, sap, leaves, etc. We have shrubbery, grass, weeds, dirt,
We have insects such as ants, worms, snails
and spiders. We also have robins, and rabbits. We had an unusually late
snow fall this year, so many of our flowers have not bloomed yet, and not
too many animals were out since
snow was still on the ground! Our class
broke into three groups, each group found some of all of these things.
Two of our groups chose the same school, the third chose a different
school to compare squares.
Group one compared their square to a school in New Jersey. Our schools
are very different. Our school is smaller in size but we have more grades.
We are third graders. Our animals were similar except we don't have rolliepollies. Our plants and non-living items were also the same.
Groups two and three chose a School in Australia. One similarity of our
are very different. Both are
suburbs of a large city. Our schools are close to the same size, however
their school is much more
multicultural than ours. Some of the animals we found were the same: ants, snails, spiders and worms. However, we do not have lizards or
Indian Myan Birds. Unfortunately, we both found litter in our squares.
Plants were very, very different.
We basically have grass and a maple tree. In their square they had plants
never heard of before, plants native to Australia.
We enjoyed observing our own land and had a lot of fun picking,
researching and learning about the other schools in far
away places.
