Letter of Introduction: Instructions

Each school will submit a letter of introduction to the project. We would appreciate your limiting the letters to one per school. If possible, have different classes combine their letter into one; having separate paragraphs for each class in one school would be fine. If this is inconvenient, please make sure each class distinguishes itself in the subject area (see below).

In the letter, please include the following:

IMPORTANT: Please be sure that students do NOT include any personal information in the Letter of Introduction.  Personal information includes first and last names, email addresses, telephone number, any other information that might lead to the identification of the student. This policy adheres to the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998.
Letters can be any  length. Some teachers have their class as a whole write the letter and other teachers assign it to a couple of students; or you may have everyone take a stab at the letter and then select the best one. Some teachers may choose to write the letter themselves. Do whatever is best for you. Your students will enjoy reading the letters from other schools and perhaps posting comments or questions to students from other states or countries.

Letters of introduction should be submitted to the project Discussion Area. .  In the subject line, please write "Letter of Introduction from Your School" (Ex/ Letter of Introduction from Kennedy Middle School).

Letter of Introduction from South Kalgoorlie Primary School, WESTERN AUSTRALIA
Message:
We are a group of year 4 students at South Kalgoorlie Primary School which is in the city of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Western Australia.

Our school is a large one with approximately 820 students, 23 classrooms and 5 Pre Primary classes. We have 29 students in our class.

Our city is situated just on the very edge of the Great Victoria Desert at 121.3 E long and 30.8 S lat. As we sit just on the edge of a desert, we experience very big weather changes over a year. Our summers are very hot (the average temperature is about 38 degrees Celsius) and our winters are very cold (especially at night when it can get to minus 2 degrees) Some of you may not think that this is very cold but it is to us!!

Our city is a mining place, we are famous for the gold mining that goes on here. We were founded just over 100 years ago when three men, Paddy Hannan, Tom Flanagan, Daniel OShea, discovered gold and started one of Australia's great gold rushes. We are starting to mine nickel here as well.

We are looking forward to sending you information about the weather from 'Down Under'.

Cheers
