| Welcome
to The Sun Times,
The
Global Sun/Temperature Project, where students and classes of any age from
around the world are welcome to participate. There is NO fee
to participate in this project. After reading the overview, please
review the schedule to see if you are able to participate and then register
for the project below.
In this project, schools determine how proximity to the equator affects
average daily temperature and hours of sunlight. Students record
their daily temperature and number of hours of sunlight per day over a
period of a week (the week is April 29 - May 3, 2002 for this round).
After collecting the data, the classes then submit their data to our online
database and compare and contrast their temperature and sunlight data with
results from classes all over the globe. Additionally, during
the project you will be able to contribute to an online Discussion Area
with other participating schools. You'll be able to discuss your class
theories concerning your results when they become available.
Registration
is now CLOSED, but you can always prepare for the next run. (see
below) During this run, participants must do the actual science experiment (collect the
data) during the week of:
April 29 -
May 3, 2002
If you
decide to participate in the project, we ask that you submit ALL
of the following:
-
Register for the project on this web site
-
A letter of Introduction from your school
or class posted to the Discussion Area
-
Required data from the science experiment
-
Final report, conclusions, or "lessons learned"
by students after the experiment has been performed
Please do not participate in
the project unless you are committed to submitting ALL
of the above information. Additionally, during the project you will
be able to contribute to an online Discussion Area with other participating
schools. You'll be able to discuss your class theories concerning your
results when they become available. There is also an optional Language
Arts Activity that you can do in conjunction with the science experiment. |
