Why did we do The Sun Times project?

The Purpose: of this experiment was to learn how the latitude (distance from the equator) affects the temperature and minutes of sunlight.

Experiment:
Material list

  1. Paper which includes time condition of weather and temperature.
  2. Pencil.
  3. Calculator
  4. Computer
    1. Sunrise and sunset information from the internet web site.
    2. Fahrenheit – Celsius conversion charts off the web.
    3. Submit and download student data.
  5. We checked the temperature every day at 11:45 am on 29-04-02 through 03-05-02
  6. Recorded the data, which was marking the temperature, noting the weather condition and noting the time.

How we accomplish it:

  1. we measured the environmental temperature between 11 and 13 hs. During the week of 29/04 and 03/05 of the 2002.
  2. We seek in daily by Internet, in Argentine newspapers what time does dawn and what time does is hidden the sun .
  3. We accomplish I calculate it of the quantity of light minutes that there is in a day.
  4. We order the data obtained to the coordinator from the project "The sun you swindle"

Average Temperature:65.7 F
Amount of Daylight (minutes): 699 min.

Conclusion:
We found that the farther North the latitude is the colder it is because you are farther from the equator. The tilt of the earth’s axis is causing the sun to radiate on the Southern Hemisphere causing it to be winter (colder weather) in the Northern Hemisphere. The geography of the land and the weather are the factors that will cause variations in the temperature at latitudes

What would we do differently?
We would like to take temperature in the sun and the shade. This would give a more acute temperature reading for the day. It would have been really cool to have someone submit data from the North Pole and South Pole. This would show a greater variation in minutes of sunlight and the temperatures at the extreme North and South.

What we learned?

  1. How to read a thermometer precisely.
  2. How to change Fahrenheit-Celsius
  3. Cold fronts and warm fronts
  4. How the sun influences the temperature of the earth.
  5. Used a variety of web sites to find information.
  6. How to read a variety of graphs of other`s school.
  7. The farther south you are the warmer the weather should be, the farther North you are the colder the weather should be (latitude).
  8. No matter where you are the weather and geography can cause temperature changes.
