Global Sun Temperature Project

2002 - FINAL REPORTS
St. Theresa School, Oakland, CA, USA

Hello,
We are a third grade class from Oakland, CA, USA. We discovered that graphing didn't give us a good idea of what was happening with the temperature and sunlight. So, we got a big globe, plotted the different locations and put little round stickies on the globe. Then we wrote the temperature and the minutes of daylight on the stickie. When we were finished plotting the locations we started seeing a pattern. The closer a place is to the equator the hotter it is. And we think that the earth is tilted and that is why Canada has more daylight hours than Australia. But, whether it is raining or not also affects the temperature. Also, how high up you are also affects the temperature but it didn't seem to affect the sunlight. Our whole class enjoyed this project. We now know a lot more about longitude and latitude. And, we know a lot more about climate and sunlight minutes.
