Global Sun Temperature Project

From: Worldwide, Grades 3 & 4, Stuart, F.L.

Thank you for the opportunity to participate in this project. We are 3rd & 4th grade homeschoolers from Stuart, Florida. The name of our school is Worldwide because the world is our classroom.

Each day during the week of May 14-18, we took turns recording the temperature off our digital thermometer out our kitchen window. We also recorded the sunlight hours from the weather page of our local newspaper. At the end of the week we calculated the averages for the week and posted them on the website. We then chose 10 different schools who posted their data and plotted them on two graphs. (We also found each of the schools on our map-we really enjoyed that as well).

From our graphs, we concluded that the farther away from the equator you are, the cooler the temperature you will experience. Also, the farther north of the equator you are, the longer hours of sunlight you will experience in the spring/summer season. We were curious how this would change in the fall/winter season. We looked back at your data from the fall/winter Global Sun Temperature Project and found the sunlight hours to change due to the tilt of the earth.

We found this project to be interesting and educational and look forward to participating in more projects in the future. THANK YOU AGAIN!
