| We are a group of year 4
students at South Kalgoorlie Primary School which is in the city
of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Western Australia.
Our school is a large one with approximately
820 students, 23 classrooms and 5 Pre Primary classes. We have 29
students in our class.
Our city is situated just on the very edge
of the Great Victoria Desert at 121.3 E long and 30.8 S lat. As we
sit just on the edge of a desert, we experience very big weather
changes over a year. Our summers are very hot (the average
temperature is about 38 degrees Celsius) and our winters are very
cold (especially at night when it can get to minus 2 degrees) Some
of you may not think that this is very cold but it is to us!!
Our city is a mining place, we are famous
for the gold mining that goes on here. We were founded just over
100 years ago when three men, Paddy Hannan, Tom Flanagan, Daniel
O'Shea, discovered gold and started one of Australia's great gold
rushes. We are starting to mine nickel here as well.
We are looking forward to sending you
information about the weather from 'Down Under'.
Cheers
